The firm was founded by Liz Abdnour and Mark Weiker, after both operated separate students-rights focused firms in Michigan and Ohio, respectively.</p><p><br></p><p>Our mission is to protect the rights and futures of students and educators. We practice primarily in the following areas: K12 school law and student rights; Title IX investigations, hearings, and litigation; special education law and disability rights; educator and school employee representation; and college student rights, code of conduct, and academic misconduct.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Job description</u></strong></p><p>We are seeking an executive assistant to assist in growing our student rights-focused law practice in the state of Michigan. The position is full time (35-40 hours per week, 8 am-5 pm, M-F). The selected professional will primarily support firm partner Liz Abdnour, who is in East Lansing, Michigan, and will also provide support to the other firm partners and firm administrator (all located in Columbus, Ohio). </p><p><br></p><p>This role’s primary duties will include providing administrative and secretarial support, including:</p><ul><li>Calendaring and scheduling for attorneys</li><li>Communicating with clients, courts, and attorneys regarding case matters and scheduling</li><li>File management, including saving and organizing case documents</li><li>Understanding and complying with office policies and procedures</li><li>Arranging travel logistics as needed</li><li>Copying, filing, and mailing as needed</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Requirements</u></strong></p><ul><li>Strong executive support skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain confidentiality</li><li>Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite</li><li>Excellent time management and organizational skills</li><li>Ability to work independently and proactively</li><li>Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with team members and external stakeholders</li><li>Comfortably accepts and applies feedback.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs and provide proactive support.</li><li>Empathy and patience for people going through difficult situations</li><li>Strong commitment to personal and professional ethics</li><li>Able to follow directions carefully and meet deadlines</li><li>Professional fluency in English</li><li>At least two years of either college education or experience as an administrative or executive assistant in a professional work environment</li></ul><p><br></p><p>Preferred but not required:</p><ul><li>Experience working in a law firm</li><li>Experience with MyCase or other legal case management software</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Location</u></strong></p><p>This is a fully remote position, but you must be located in Michigan, Ohio, or Pennsylvania, and able to travel to periodic firmwide events and administrative tasks such as postal and court filing errands, etc.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><u>Compensation</u></strong></p><p>$20-25/hour based on experience. We offer our administrative staff a comprehensive benefits plan including PTO, paid holidays, health insurance, life insurance, and a matching retirement contribution.</p>
