Gateways Hospital and Mental Health Center, located in Los Angeles, is a non-profit organization that provides an array of comprehensive mental health services for Children, Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and Adults suffering from mental illness in the Greater Los Angeles area. The organization consists of a standalone fifty-five (55) )-bed hospital and six outlying outpatient facilities that have anywhere from fourteen (14) beds to one hundred and thirty-four (134) beds. The organization has approximately four hundred (400) employees.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Financial Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Gateways' financial health and strategic initiatives. This position is responsible for, but not limited to, developing predictive financial models, analyzing financial statements, grants and contracts, coordinating and executing both capital and operating budgets, and delivering timely, accurate financial analysis and government contract reporting. The analyst supports strategic decision-making through advanced data analysis, forecasting, and financial modeling derived from a variety of internal and external sources.
As a key resource to Senior Management, Operations Directors, Business Office staff, and program leaders, the Financial Analyst provides guidance on revenue cycle performance, financial planning, and operational efficiency. This role collaborates closely with the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, Director of Revenue Cycle, Capital Management Team, Program Directors, and the Gateways Foundation.
Candidates must currently reside locally and be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Develop detailed variance and trend analysis reports for senior leadership and department heads.
  • Assist in regulatory reporting (e.g., Medicare cost reports, Medicaid, UDS) and compliance audits.
Capital Management & Tracking
  • Lead the financial tracking and reporting of capital projects and expenditures, including new construction, renovations, and equipment purchases.
  • Maintain detailed capital expenditure reports and dashboards, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and capital planning objectives.
  • Partner with Facilities, Supply Chain, and IT to monitor project timelines, spending, and funding sources (e.g., debt, grants, philanthropic funds).
  • Providing recommendations to reduce costs and improve financial performance.
  • Analyze project cash flow projections and funding schedules and identify variances between forecasted and actual capital spending.
  • Assist with scenario modeling for strategic capital investments, acquisitions, and expansion projects.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Decision Support
  • Support the development of the annual operating and capital budgets by providing historical analysis, key assumptions, and forecasting tools.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to evaluate departmental performance and resource utilization.
  • Build and maintain complex financial models for multi-year planning and "what-if" scenarios.
System & Process Improvements
  • Lead initiatives to automate reporting processes and improve financial system functionality (e.g., ERP/BI tools).
  • Identify and implement the best practices in capital tracking and financial analytics.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong data mining skills with the ability to extract, clean, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Experience with automation techniques and streamline reporting and improve efficiency.

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATES
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field required.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 2 years specifically focused on financial reporting and analysis. Hospital or healthcare experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing and analyzing large-scale capital projects and investments.
  • The ability to structure the work, manage the process, drive the right set of analyses, and communicate the answer through a compelling storyline.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement principles is beneficial but not required.
  • Non-profit background is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP
  • A background in healthcare financial regulations, and capital asset accounting principles is desired.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s license.
  • TB clearance.
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.
