Pay Schedule  II, Grade H22, Regular Schedule:  40 hours per week<br><br>You <strong>MUST</strong> be a current  merit (full-time) employee of the Baltimore County General Government to apply for this position.<br><br>Vacancies occurring within this class in the Department of Public Works will be filled from the list of eligible applicants.  This position will be open until further notice.<br><br>A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.<br><br><strong>NOTE</strong>:  When completing your application it is not necessary to fill out the "Work Experience" section.  Follow the on-screen instructions and then save and submit your application.Under general supervision, utilizes acquired skills commensurate with a Public Works Technician III certification in one of the specified options to drive and operate commercial weight vehicles and equipment, and to perform various maintenance and construction tasks of the Department of Public Works.<br><br><strong>Highways Option</strong><ul><li>Drives and operates commercial weight, single and tandem-axle vehicles and heavy construction equipment for the Bureau of Highways such as gradalls, dump trucks, bucket trucks, patch trucks, track loaders, belt loaders, graders, pavers, rollers, backhoes, and front-end loaders.<li>Salts and plows roads during snow emergencies.<li>Performs cement finishing, masonry, welding, and/or carpentry duties.<li>Repairs, resurfaces, and rehabilitates roadways.<li>Erects and repairs guard rails and traffic signs.<li>Constructs forms and mixes concrete and finishes.<li>Repairs, maintains, and paints buildings, bridges, and other structures.<li>Operates hand and power tools such as sledges, air hammers, and picks, jacks, and sprayers.<li>Mows grass and removes debris from highway right-of-way areas.<li>Plants, prunes, and trims shrubs and trees.<li>Applies pesticides and fertilizers.<li>Participates in safety related training including confined space and trench working conditions and the handling of hazardous materials, and CPR and First Aid.</ul><br><strong>Utilities Option</strong><ul><li>Drives and operates commercial weight, single and tandem-axle vehicles and heavy construction equipment for the Bureau of Utilities such as dump trucks, rubber tired loaders, backhoes, crane trucks, forklifts, skid loaders, track loaders, and vac cons.<li>Repairs and maintains the sanitary and storm drain systems.<li>Assists in salting and plowing roads during snow emergencies.<li>Operates machines and equipment used in the inspection and cleaning of sewer lines such as rod trucks, jetters, jet vacs, roto rooters, fog machines, and/or the T.V. Inspection Unit.<li>Installs spot repairs to sanitary sewer systems or internal band repair to storm drain lines.<li>Constructs, installs, and repairs sewers, storm drains, and similar structures.<li>Performs construction tasks associated with concrete and masonry work, such as breaking up existing concrete or masonry and repairing storm drain and sanitary sewer pipe.<li>Repairs and installs water mains and/or connections.<li>Performs related welding duties.<li>Operates hand and power tools such as air hammers and asphalt saws.<li>Participates in safety related training including confined space, work zone traffic control, and CPR and First Aid.<li>Serves as lead worker on utility construction and/or maintenance projects.</ul><br><strong>Both Options</strong><ul><li>Loads, unloads, or assists in loading and unloading equipment, tools, and materials.<li>Transports crews and/or materials to and from jobs.<li>Performs preventive and routine maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment.<li>Installs special adapters and fixtures to equipment.<li>Inspects vehicles.<li>Makes minor repairs to vehicles and helps mechanics with major repairs as required.<li>Performs various manual labor tasks.<li>Places traffic control devices and serves as flag person.<li>Maintains records and logs.</ul><br><strong>Examples of Other Duties</strong><ul><li>Leads and instructs others.<li>Trains and assists in the operation of other equipment and vehicles necessary to perform the duties of the position.<li>Performs other related duties as required.</ul><br>(NOTE: The duties and responsibilities listed above are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications for all positions in this class. Each position may not be required to perform all of the essential job functions listed.)Certification in the respective option as a Baltimore County Public Works Technician III.<br><br><strong>Age Requirement</strong><br>Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.<br><br><strong>Licenses and Certificates</strong><br>Certification in the respective option as a Baltimore County Public Works Technician III is required at the time of application.<br><br>Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver's license is required. Some options may require possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class A Maryland driver's license.<br><br>Licenses may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.<br><br>Possession of a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required.<br><br><strong>EXAMINATION PROCEDURE</strong><br>Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions.  Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.Employees in this classification are designated as Emergency/Essential and may be required with little or no notice to work overtime.<br><br><strong>Physical and Environmental Conditions</strong><br>The work of this classification entails the performance of heavy physical labor including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying heavy objects, and the operation of vehicles, tools, and heavy equipment. Some work requires exposure to potentially hazardous conditions such as standing in traffic, working in trenches, and adverse weather.<br><br><br>
