Philo: a streaming service for TV and movie lovers

Philo is building a modern TV company that combines high-quality streaming technology with a clear point of view on value, simplicity, and the viewing experience. Our product now spans paid subscription plans, premium bundles, add-ons, and a growing free-channel experience - creating a business that sits at the intersection of product, content, subscriptions, billing, and a rapidly changing media landscape.

That mix creates unusually rich analytical problems. At Philo, strong business judgment matters just as much as technical depth: the best work helps leaders understand what is happening in the business, why it is happening, and what to do next.

Data and Business Insights at Philo

Data underpins nearly every important decision at Philo. The company operates in an event-rich environment with large-scale behavioral, subscription, billing, and content data that inform work across acquisition, retention, product experience, streaming quality, pricing, content discovery, and long-term customer value.

Philo's data organization spans data science, data engineering, analytics engineering, and business-facing analytical partners who work closely with Finance, Product, Growth, Lifecycle Marketing, Content, Customer Experience, Operations, and other teams. As Philo continues to evolve its plan structure across paid plans, free channels, and add-ons - and as customers interact through both direct and partner billing experiences - trusted business insights become even more important.

The Role

We're looking for a Senior Business Insights Analyst to help Philo make better, faster decisions through rigorous analysis, trusted metrics, and strong cross-functional partnership. This is a high-impact individual contributor role for someone who is equally comfortable owning recurring KPI reporting, diving into ambiguous ad-hoc questions, and presenting clear, decision-ready recommendations to senior stakeholders.

You will serve as a strategic analytical partner across multiple parts of the business, with especially deep ownership in billing and subscription analytics. That includes trial conversion, activation, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on behavior, pricing and packaging performance, refunds and credits, failed payments, involuntary churn, and the differences between direct and partner billing experiences. You will help Philo understand the health of its subscriber base and revenue streams in a way that connects clearly to action.

This role will also touch many other parts of the company. One week you may be helping Finance understand a revenue variance or size a packaging scenario; the next you may be partnering with Product on funnel friction, Growth on acquisition quality and retention, Content on engagement patterns, or Customer Experience on account and billing pain points. The ideal candidate combines analytical depth, business fluency, crisp communication, and a high bar for data quality. They do not wait to be told exactly what analysis to run - they refine the question, frame the decision, and deliver work people trust and use.

Responsibilities

Own and evolve the core business scorecards, dashboards, and ad-hoc analyses leaders use to monitor subscriber growth, revenue, billing health, retention, engagement, content performance, and monetization trends.

Translate ambiguous questions from stakeholders into structured analytical plans, clear findings, and actionable recommendations that inform real decisions.

Build deep expertise in Philo's billing and subscription ecosystem, including trials, conversion, renewals, churn, reactivation, plan migration, add-on attach, refunds, credits, failed payments, involuntary churn, and direct vs. partner billing flows.

Identify the operational and product levers that improve subscriber health, reduce friction, and strengthen revenue retention across the lifecycle.

Partner with Growth and Lifecycle Marketing on acquisition quality, funnel performance, cohort health, promotional effectiveness, winback programs, and LTV/CAC context.

Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science on customer journey analysis, feature adoption, experimentation readouts, and insight generation across the viewing and account experience.

Partner with Content, Programming, and Marketing to understand which channels, titles, and viewing patterns drive acquisition, engagement, retention, upsell, and free-to-paid conversion opportunities.

Support customer-facing and operational teams with insights into support contact drivers, account issues, billing friction, and subscriber pain points where analytical clarity can improve the customer experience.

Build executive-ready materials that connect numbers to narrative, synthesize tradeoffs, and help technical and non-technical stakeholders make decisions with confidence.

Improve the quality and trustworthiness of business data by partnering with analytics engineering and data engineering on instrumentation, metric governance, source-of-truth logic, and data quality issues.

Help raise the analytical bar across the organization through clear documentation, thoughtful prioritization, and a pragmatic balance of speed and rigor.

Key Qualifications

6+ years of experience in business insights, analytics, strategy analytics, finance analytics, business intelligence, or a closely related function.

Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large-scale behavioral, subscription, billing, financial, or operational data sets.

Strong experience building data visualizations, dashboards, and self-serve reporting environments in BI tools such as Mode, Omni, Tableau, Looker, etc.

A proven track record of translating vague business questions into clear analyses, sharp recommendations, and polished decision-ready narratives and presentations.

Excellent spreadsheet skills in Excel or Google Sheets.

Strong analytical fundamentals across cohort analysis, funnel analysis, segmentation, retention and churn analysis, trend analysis, KPI design, forecasting support, anomaly detection, and practical experimentation or quasi-experimental measurement.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to senior stakeholders with different levels of technical fluency.

Strong stakeholder partnership skills and the ability to influence across Product, Finance, Marketing, Content, Operations, and technical teams.

A strong sense of ownership and prioritization: you can manage competing requests, separate urgent from important, and independently drive work forward.

Ideal Qualifications

Experience in subscription, streaming, media, entertainment, ad-supported products, or another event-rich consumer business.

Experience using Python or R for deeper ad-hoc analysis, automation, or statistical workflows; our team primarily uses Python, so candidates should be comfortable working in Python or willing to ramp up

Deep familiarity with subscription business metrics such as trials, conversion, churn, retention, winback, LTV, plan mix, and add-on attach.

Experience with billing, payments, dunning or retry flows, refunds and credits, and direct or partner-billing analytics.

Experience with content, engagement, lifecycle marketing, or free-to-paid funnel analytics in a consumer product environment.

Familiarity with modern data platforms and event-tracking environments such as Snowflake, dbt, Segment, Avo, GrowthBook, or similar tools.

More about Philo

At Philo, we’re a company that puts people first—both our subscribers and our team.
